Manaki, and why December matters

  • 1 min read

What makes the Manaki olive different?

Manaki is one of the oldest olive varieties in Greece, mild by nature, smooth and buttery even at early harvest, without the harsh bitterness or peppery burn many oils carry. Ours is grown and pressed on a single family estate in Epidaurus, in the Argolis valley.

Why press it in December, with citrus?

Once a year, in December, the Manaki olives are milled together with organic lemons and tangerines grown in the same valley, fruit and olives pressed at the same moment, not flavoured afterward. The result only exists at that moment, in that place, in that season. It will not taste exactly the same next year. That is the point.

Single-estate vs blend, does it matter?

A blend averages many farms, and often many countries, into one consistent product. A single estate tastes of one place. You are choosing character over uniformity.
